One of the strange things about having a video on YouTube is that it has no "end by" date. The run of The Death Of Margaret Thatcher finished a month ago, but YouTube viewers continue their, er, debate.

At least wait til the woman is dead. Love her or loath her, tis poor taste to talk about someone's death..til after they are dead.. More evidence that the arts should be left to finance them selves, and their hand-outs should be cut!

Le Monde review

I've just stumbled (googled) across various foreign language reviews of the Death Of Margaret Thatcher. Most coverage (like this review) came from Brazil for some reason. Also several from France - here's the review in Le Monde.

My French and Spanish aren't really up to much, so I've relied on Google translate. It's pretty good, but you do get the occasional paragraph like this one.

These provocations had left Mrs Thatcher marble. The theatre, like all the arts elsewhere, ennuyait deeply.

Proof of how titillated the media is by the prospect of Thatcher actually dying came this weekend when she was admitted to hospital for tests. She'd been feeling faint. Stayed one night. Came out again feeling fine.

Not much of a story, right?

Wrong. A lead item on all the news bulletins, and front page coverage in the Sunday papers. And the start of what might become a campaign to get her a state burial when she does eventually die.

Though the Daily Mail ran an early rant about the play, the actual review didn't come out until the first Friday. For some reason it never went online, so here it is.

Needless to say, it's not the fairest of reviews, but the feigned outrage is quite amusing. And check out his views on Harold Pinter on the facing page.

Last night was the end of the four-week run of The Death Of Margaret Thatcher at The Courtyard Theatre in London.

The cast was:

Everyone who I've spoken to about the show, and pretty much all the critics, have praised the cast and June Abbott's direction. They did a great job.

The international press agency AFP were in last week. Here's the film they made, including some very nice vox pops from audience members at the end.
