Talking In Bed
My new play Talking In Bed ran at Theatre 503 in London from Jan 10th 2011, directed by Cecily Boys for Old Bomb Theatre Productions.
Reviews:
London Festival Fringe - Talking In Bed By Tom Green ★★★★ "This play is a deftly-handled peek into the bedroom of four unrelated couples; and Tom Green’s observational comedy is highly watchable."
Remotegoat - Talking In Bed By Tom Green ★★★★ "Sharp, funny, touching, dramatic, thoughtful"
Spoonfed -Talking In Bed by Tom Green: "Green exposes the naked truth – literally – and delves into the unspoken, unnamed and uncomfortable with ease and simultaneous daring."

A state funeral for Mrs Thatch?
Following a report in The Mail On Sunday that Mrs Thatcher will be getting some kind of state funeral, there's been a flurry of media speculation. This article by Simon Jenkins was more thoughtful than most, although I think he's rather too dismissive of the impact that Thatcher's policies had on millions of people.
Update (3/08/08): Apparently, no decisions about Mrs Thatcher's funeral have, in fact, been made.
As mentioned below, I'm only posting here intermittently. For more updates visit my website tomgreen-uk.com

YouTube comments
One of the strange things about having a video on YouTube is that it has no "end by" date. The run of The Death Of Margaret Thatcher finished a month ago, but YouTube viewers continue their, er, debate.

Crikey- you (below) sound like the Daily Mail reader mate, loving the spelling errors as you accuse them of being uneducated too, surely intended irony from one clearly soooo superior

Absoloute imbosiles, Margaret Thatcher was one of the best Prime Ministers we have ever had.
Typical idiocy of the uneducated populace beliving in what the daily mail or some satarist writes in his journal.
Absoloute drivil and i hope it sinks and drowns like the uneducated rubbish it is.

I don't want Thatcher to die - not ever.
I want her to age and suffer but not die - not until she's well and truly fucking sorry !

Bitter left wing t..ts! Why can't these people not accept that she won the arguments and beat them fair and square.Would they like to see a play celebrating the death of their mother or grandmother.Sick, totally sick.

F**k I agree with the post above, it's wrong to say shes dead, if the f**king bitch is still here.

At least wait til the woman is dead. Love her or loath her, tis poor taste to talk about someone's death..til after they are dead.. More evidence that the arts should be left to finance them selves, and their hand-outs should be cut!

Le Monde review
I've just stumbled (googled) across various foreign language reviews of the Death Of Margaret Thatcher. Most coverage (like this review) came from Brazil for some reason. Also several from France - here's the review in Le Monde.
My French and Spanish aren't really up to much, so I've relied on Google translate. It's pretty good, but you do get the occasional paragraph like this one.

These provocations had left Mrs Thatcher marble. The theatre, like all the arts elsewhere, ennuyait deeply.

(Not) the death of Margaret Thatcher
Proof of how titillated the media is by the prospect of Thatcher actually dying came this weekend when she was admitted to hospital for tests. She'd been feeling faint. Stayed one night. Came out again feeling fine.
Not much of a story, right?
Wrong. A lead item on all the news bulletins, and front page coverage in the Sunday papers. And the start of what might become a campaign to get her a state burial when she does eventually die.
Elsewhere there's some more coverage of The Death Of Margaret Thatcher (the play) from France 24 TV.

The Death Of Margaret Thatcher, as seen by Quentin Letts
Though the Daily Mail ran an early rant about the play, the actual review didn't come out until the first Friday. For some reason it never went online, so here it is.
Needless to say, it's not the fairest of reviews, but the feigned outrage is quite amusing. And check out his views on Harold Pinter on the facing page.

The Death Of Margaret Thatcher at The Courtyard
Last night was the end of the four-week run of The Death Of Margaret Thatcher at The Courtyard Theatre in London.
The cast was:
Everyone who I've spoken to about the show, and pretty much all the critics, have praised the cast and June Abbott's direction. They did a great job.
The international press agency AFP were in last week. Here's the film they made, including some very nice vox pops from audience members at the end.
The cast was:
- Floor Manager - Russell Anthony
- Dana - Leanne Elms
- Dudley - John Elnaugh
- Hoagy - Alan Freestone
- Karen - Pamela Hall
- Producer - Ian Mairs
- Bobby - Craig Murray
- Jonelle - Alex Topham Tyerman

More reviews for The Death Of Margaret Thatcher
Fair to say that the play hasn't been to everyone's liking - check out this vitriolic piece in The Spectator. But here are some more who have enjoyed it:
The Ham And High has given it four stars - the review doesn't seem to be online but I've scanned it for posterity ;-)

Some reviews
Some online reviews that I've found interesting:
- Helen Smith
- The Londonist
- And, my favourite, from "The Information Agency Of Tartastan" (honestly!) - the English isn't always, er, precise, but the analysis is pretty good.
International reviews are definitely the best. This one from The Tapei Times doesn't add much about the play (except for perpetuating the myth that that I was inspired by Thatcher visiting Gordon Brown in September 2007 - I wrote the play six months earlier), but if you scroll down there's what I can only assume is a slightly bizarre language exercise.
Quentin Letts from The Daily Mail came to the first preview and this article was the result. If you see the play, you'll recognise what a hilarious misrepresentation this piece is.

The Death Of Margaret Thatcher at The Courtyard Theatre
My new play, The Death Of Margaret Thatcher, is on at The Courtyard Theatre in London, directed by June Abbott, until March 5th 2008.
All the details (and a podcast) are on their website.
I've started this blog partly to keep my own record of the production and the play, and partly because someone else has put up a website about the play at thedeathofmargaretthatcher.com . They're not putting up anything malicious - it seems to be a ruse for Google Adwords - but I thought I'd better do something official.
